I have an iPad 2 and HP Officehet 8600 Plus printer. The printe is is updated in every possible manner as is the iPad. When I go to print from Pages on the iPad it reads "no Airprint printers availabe". They are both on the same network and I even get the same error on my iPhone.

If you are sure the printer and the iOS devices are on the same network then the next likely issue is with the router. What make and model router are you using?
one thing i noticed with my HP photosmart printer (i forget the model, but it does support airprint). is that i have to have to printer on for a few minutes before my ipad 2 recognizes that it is there. once it does it prints like a charm...
My router is a Netgear FVS318. Somedays the AirPrint works but most days it doesn't. I have the same exact printer at home (time capsule router) and it works there 90% of the time.

Did you make sure the printer is on the same wifi net work as your iPad ? On a cheapo printer like mine that means running the start-up disc on a lap top connected by cable to the printer. On a more expensive printer you can input the network on the printer yourself.
